Technical Details:
In March 2025, our client was awarded contracts for the design, manufacturing, installation, commissioning, and personnel training of boilers and heat exchanger systems for three sugar plants. To ensure project timelines and improve assembly efficiency, the design adopted U-type butt welding. Meanwhile, to enhance thermal efficiency, the density of heat exchange tubes was increased, making U-bend forming a technical challenge.
To guarantee that U-bends with an outer diameter of 63.5mm achieve a bending radius R=57mm while keeping ovality within 12.5%, the client required us to conduct two batches of trials before awarding the contract. Both batches fully met the design requirements. During production, since EN10216-2 P235G, EN10216-2 13CrMo4-5, and 10CrMo9-10 have significant differences in tensile and yield strength, we designed multiple sets of forming dies for different materials. This ensured that the ovality and outer diameter deviation of the U-bends met specifications. Final sampling inspection, carried out at 5% for each material, confirmed that all finished products had ovality deviations controlled within 10%, which is superior to the client’s maximum tolerance of 12.5%.
Quality Control:
In line with customer requirements, we implement strict quality checks starting from raw material inspection. Following EN10216-2 standards, no more than 200 tubes are included per heat number. For each heat number, tensile tests, flattening tests, flaring tests, and chemical analysis are carried out. Only tubes that pass ECT (Eddy Current Testing) and UT (Ultrasonic Testing) are accepted into storage, ensuring reliability and safety of the final products.
Business Cooperation:
Our client is a well-known EPC contractor in South Africa specializing in the design, manufacturing, and operation of complete boiler and heat exchanger systems. Their supplier entry requirements are extremely strict, with annual audits for pressure piping and component providers. Since our first cooperation in 2018, we have supported them in bidding and technical solutions for over 10 international projects, supplying on average more than 1,000 tons of pressure pipes per year in various grades.
On-time Delivery:
On August 21, 2025, with strong coordination and full support from our production departments, the project was completed 10 days ahead of schedule and shipped on time.
